The breeding process
I  believe  all breeding's should be supervised. First time breeding females should be muzzled. You
have to look long and hard for the right set of parents, you have to acknowledge your own dogs
faults and look to correct them with the sire/dam you are going to use. This means looking at the
pedigree, dogs in it, and what they produce, you can order this off of AKC's website for a fee. After
this is done look for Health certificates the more a dog has the better but don't stop there get on
OFA's website and look at the number of dog produced or related to the sire/dam to see if any are
positive for bad hips or other related conditions some people do make their test results on their dog
public. You can also find out if this sire/dam or related siblings, parents are producing good
hips, elbows, hearts etc. This is free all you have to do is type in the dogs name or AKC number.
You must make sure you support both dogs we use a leash around the female's belly or you can use a
sheet so she can not sit down, we hold her collar so she can not run or pull away this would cause damage
the whole uterus could fall out, etc. The male usually just freezes but if not it is good to have a second
person there to hold the male if he would try to move around. Also you want to keep them close together
while they are in this position. Usually proven breeders will not need to be muzzled.
We always take pictures for proof of breedings and in case of a field inspection by AKC

One thing you want to do is make sure you and the stud owner have a stud
contract. The stud owner usually has this and will have you sign it so make
sure you read it over and know what your responsibilities are there is a
Individual dog ownership you are required by AKC to keep on your breeding
stock. You can contact AKC for this paperwork it is free
